Release Party Photos! Live Video of NEXT Single...

‘The Strong & the Silent’ is out now and we celebrated with a full band fiasco at the lower east side club, ‘Berlin Under A’ - the band brought that as well as 7 other new songs to life!

Here is ‘The Strong & the Silent’ if you haven’t heard it yet!

You can find it on all other services here: smarturl.it/strongsilent

The night was extra special as I curated the lineup of bands so the venue was ours for the evening and filled with friends playing eclectic music. I had a great photographer there snapping away who also got video of what’s likely to be the NEXT single, ‘Second Guess’:

All of this new work in progress is the result of over a year of demo writing and sharing with my fan club on Patreon - their monthly, small dollar contributions are what’s funding all of this and is what will make the consistent, creative over the next (forever? years possible. Check it out here: https://www.patreon.com/BrettGleason

Brett Gleason at Berlin Under A

There were 70 photos from the show, I cut it down to 30 and made a Flickr album - check it out here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmEvXjoM

This place has great vibes but is notoriously hard to photograph, how great do these look? How much fun did we have?! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to show and has shown support for the new single - it’s been the most well received of my songs yet, & the best is yet to come.

Gratefully,

Brett

The Strong & the Silent: New Single & NYC Release Show

I have a new song I’ve been working on a long time because I’ve been working on me a long time too….

I stepped back after my last album & knew I had to change, not just musically but personally. I was proud of my work but felt like a failure, felt disconnected and alone despite sharing so much of myself for so long.

I went back in therapy to figure things out, started reading deeply, listening harder & working intentionally.

I learned I couldn’t go it alone anymore & started building a community on Patreon to share my progress. I began writing songs like confessions and chose one that summed up the challenge I had to live up to:

THE STRONG & THE SILENT embraces radical vulnerability in the face of digital isolation -

After a decade of struggling in silence, I was in the system & progressing on paper - holding my head high but with an artificially brave front.  Too proud to lean on anyone or admit need, it took a second reckoning to learn the strongest medicine is human connection.

The Strong & the Silent is out June 7th but you can download NOW by joining my Patreon Community

You’ll also be invited to our bi-weekly live streams and hear all the new album demos.

It’s this core group of supporters who have made it possible, sustained and motivated me to make the best music of my life so they/you/we get it NOW - at any tier, starting at $1.

Join the Patreon & download the .mp3 here: http://bit.ly/tstspatreonmp3

If you’re in NYC, you can also can get an immediate download by getting an advanced ticket to the album release party - my band is performing in the East Village with two other phenomenal acts and we’re taking over. Get an $8 adv ticket and I’ll send you the download now: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brett-gleason-single-release-with-reliant-tom-dalton-deschain-tickets-62156106588

There is one extra special very limited option for those who are pained by seeing my face cut in half and want to help me launch this single and go on my first tour this summer (more info TBA!)

I am printing a few 8x10 pieces of the original shot of the single art, autographed and personalized. These were done by Eva Mueller here in Brooklyn who I’ve been a fan of for many many years.

Want one? Join the Patreon at the $25 Level and it’s yours (only 15 available!) http://bit.ly/patreonjoin

I’ve never released a single before nor have I ever spent so long on a single song but I really want to do this last year of personal work and support from my Patreon justice and launch with someone that really stood out from my previous albums - not only is this is a new sound and style for me but it’s the first time I’ve recorded EVERYTHING in the studio including my vocals and piano.

That might sound crazy but I’m such a DIY artist that I’ve managed to do so much on my own but as you’ll see, I found one of the best grand pianos in the tri-state area (travelled to South Philly to play on it) and recorded all my vocals on not just a great microphone but in a room with vibes, and a producer that helped me to own my performances instead of hiding in my closet, hoping my neighbors don’t hear me -

It’s a big difference sonically and the results are powerful. I can’t wait to share this all with you.

My Debut Album: Re-Released / Revisited - Reduced...

I've gone through so many changes the last 5 years I almost don't recognize the person that released my debut album...

So, I moved some tracks, deleted two others, re-issued the whole thing & I'm proud to re-introduce myself to the world :

Before I get too deep in the history of these songs may I present to you this FINAL version which is a subtle but solid improvement on an already presentable performance:

Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2Tftg5C

 iTunes / AppleMusic:  https://apple.co/2FxgKJX

(It's in the other music places too....

If you're a Patreon Supporter for $3+, DM me for a free download!

You can Join HERE

NOW - the real thing I wanna talk about is:

'WHY DID I RE-RELEASE MY DEBUT ALBUM'?

I signed on with a new distribution company to release new music & had the opportunity to transfer over my old music with minor tweaks in the process...

As a recovering perfectionist, this was dangerous but as an evolving artist, I can't stop improving myself...admitting the track order didn't cut it, or the production isn't right...

It was a hard decision but you know what? I'm more proud of my debut than ever and ready for new ears to hear me...

So whether you've heard 'Brett Gleason' or not, I invite you to revisit with a fresh ear because in June we release a new single to mark a new era, striking out on a new journey together.

Here's the final track order, 'Brett Gleason' was originally released May 5, 2014:

1. Imposter

2. Calculated

3. Polarity

4.  I Am Not

5. Destruction

6. Futile & Fooled

7. The Thawing

8. Idealize the Dead

Here is an alternate version of the album cover that we didn't use:

My friend & veteran music photographer Doug Seymour shot this and I got some bad news during the shoot (nothing earth shattering but enough to throw me into an emotional tailspin...) and being as connected as we were personally to each other and to the project we decided to just keep shooting and see what we got... Interestingly there was one shot that was half clear eyed visionary, half crumbling man...it felt right and we cropped out what we needed without forgetting our other half...

Anyone remember ' The Dissonance ' & ' The Thawing '? #RIP IN CONCLUSION: I'm getting ready to release NEW MUSIC into the world and if I do my job right, new eyes and ears will be coming across my old music so I want to put my best foot forward and am tying up my loose ends. I'm even thinking of changing the track order in ' Manifest '...I'm A MANIAC. Love you all, Brett (The Selfie Series! I challenged supporters to make selfies with CD's! - mine worked well...

A Year in Review: Song Demos from Patreon

In 2018 - I wrote 8 new song demos for my Patreon supporters I’m now officially recording publicly - Patreon is a monthly support system to follow artists as they create -

My biggest fear was after folks jump on for a month or two they would quit - but here we are a full year later and we've accomplished A LOT!

Here are the original posts of all the music once you join!

p.s. there are a ton of public posts too!

1. New Space

2. Jealousy

3. Second Guess

4. Real Love

5. The Strong & The Silent

6. Grey Lines

7.  Cruel

8.  Unintentional War

9.  Versions of Love

Having a safe place to share my work in progress, a community cheering me on and a monthly income to put towards my music changed how I create and view myself as a professional artist and I couldn't be more grateful for this last year OR more excited for the one to come.

A proper '2019 Goals' post will come before the end of year and I definitely want to hear what YOU have in store too but first I'll be sharing this video in the hopes of growing our community so that we can make even more music, even faster and connect even deeper.

So much of my time is spent teaching right now and not enough making music so with the continued growth of this Patreon, we'll get to speed up the content and connect MORE.

Much love,

Brett

p.s. If you're NEW to this Patreon and haven't yet shown your support, please do!

You can help bring these songs into the studio with as little as $1/month and will get instant access to the full versions of these songs, $3 will get you downloads! http://bit.ly/patreonjoin

Whether by necessity or design, I’ve embraced being a DIY musician and have learned that the few who truly listen and support my work are my real audience. However many thousands I’ve reached in the years I’ve been recording and performing, it keeps coming back to the same hundred or so fans now friends who have been there from the start and are joining along the way who truly have my back, cheer me on and let me know when I’ve gone astray.

Some people listen to artists for years without ever spending a dollar on them and here I am, asking you to support me monthly, to help sustain the artist vision we’re building together.

Some people can’t give anything, some people can give much more. Some people can only give their time, their ears and their hearts and it all helps to motivate and inspire me to keep creating – A NEW SONG EVERY MONTH is how this has been going down.

And since I’m asking you to pledge your support, here is what I’m promising in return:

MY PATREON PROMISES:

  1. A New Song Every Month: I will record a live video of a song, provide the lyrics and the backstory to the song for ALL on Patreon – I will only post a short snippet of the song on social media. Supporters of $3+ get the .mp3 download as well.

  2. A Live Streamed Concert Every Month: With mostly new music, performed on an unlisted YouTube link only Patreon supporters get, $5+ members can watch live BUT all members will get access after, with a hyperlinked tracklist.

  3. A Welcome Video! I send a personalized welcome video to show you how psyched I am you joined the and give a few tips on how best to enjoy Patreon – I do this through an app called ‘Bonjoro’ via the email you signed up to Patreon with.

  4. Some Sort of Something in the Mail! Depending on your level of support and whatever kind of BG swag you’ve already got your hands on, I’m gonna find a way to send you something new…it might be after 2-3 months of support when I know you’re really in this but I’ll think of something…

  5. FOR THE BIG TIME PLAYERS: A one-on-one video chat or phone call for Patrons of $50+ and a one-on-one live internet concert for Patrons at $100 – both scheduled at your convenience. You deserve it!

What is Patreon? Put simply it’s a monthly support system that directly connects artists with their audiences, a private world to explore new work together as we bring it to life. You can jump on for as little as a $1, not get charged until 1st of the next month as well as change your Pledge at any time.

But I know you’ll love it – Patreon is our own social, multi-media account, interactive blog, messenger, live video streaming and chat service. Of course, like most internet platforms, it’s whatever you make out of it and I have some big plans for us…

Why Patreon? For many reasons – most important of all is that I’m looking for a long-term, sustainable path to making music and connecting more intimately with my supporters. Even more important than the financial support is the emotional support and with this Patreon I am committing to making music for whoever is listening, whether it’s a small, core group of supporters like I currently have or beyond. I am committing to a life of creating the most authentic, sincere and directly connected music I can – I am selling out to you.

Where does the money go? Every dollar that I make from the Patreon is being saved to get me into the studio to record the songs we choose or to purchase something I need for my home studio, I will be 100% transparent. And of course, Patreon takes about a 10% fee for us to use this excellent platform.

My truth? I’m a guy who works two jobs to fund the day to day costs of making music in one of the most expensive yet creative cities in the world. But the most expensive thing of all is my time as I not only write but play 90% of the instruments, self-record and produce my albums/videos from my home studio. I have no label or manager. I hire a publicist for 3 months when I have a record out but that’s it. By the time I release the record, the Kickstarter covers the mixing/mastering/printing costs after I’ve spent years and thousands of hours/dollars to get to that point, mostly alone. I’m then too far in debt to tour and have to get back to my day job so the record never gets to truly see the light of day…

If you can make the leap of faith and pledge a monthly support it would be a huge first step towards creating a sustainable life as a musician for me, which is the only way I can continue to create consistently. Not sure if you’re into this? Not sure where your finances will be next month? Put in a small amount to start, you can always change it – for now, the symbolism of your support is huge, as I get my bearings with this platform.

I’ve been supporting and following a few different artists and it’s been amazing, I know you’ll love it here and I know I can be a good host. I’m ready. Let’s do this.

Any thoughts? Concerns? Let me know! Check out my PATREON PAGE to see some public posts and learn more about what I’ve been up to.
